Veganism killing animals
I have no problem with someone choosing a vegan diet. It can work healthfully, however, it can be difficult to manage as it relates to the amount to clean protein the body needs, and all the necessary nutrients that come with eating meat.
What I will not agree with is the argument that some vegans use as to why they’re making that choice, based on their desire not to hurt or kill animals. It won’t fly!
A naive assumption of the vegan diet is that it saves the world from animal cruelty. It turns out that a plant from a grocery store is less vegan than a local grass-fed cow.
As you’ll see in the short video below, the titanic sum of animals killed to preserve a nutrient deficient, vegan lifestyle is gruesome.
First, the soil tilling process is like a tsunami, destroying all life in its path. To clear the soil to plant crops, farmers must till the soil. This kills any animals residing there.
According to Mike Archer, a Professor at the University of NSW, 25 times more animals die to produce an equal weight of wheat protein and beef protein.
Vegans probably understand that some animals die for their lifestyle. But not the extent of it. And mice dying to produce spinach is no different than a cow dying to produce steak.
All in all, billions of animals die for the vegan lifestyle. Whereas carnivores can live off 1-2 cows a year.
But what about cruelty to cows?
What about the horrific images of cows in feedlots? On this point I totally agree. I despise cramped feedlots and in no way is that what I advocate for. But this has changed dramatically in the last decade.
Grass fed, humanly treated pasture raised cows is the most sustainable form of agriculture. Not only does it provide the most nutritious food in the world it is how cows were meant to live.
I grew up on a ranch where we raised grass beef, pigs, sheep, etc. I ate meat every meal and am convinced that it was probably the greatest contribution to my outstanding health throughout my life. Today, I am still the anti-vegan, and practically a carnivore.
So, choose to be a vegan if you want, just don’t say you’re doing so to save the animals.
